METHODS – The Interview

Hailing from Wolverhampton/Salford, England, METHODS are an exciting five piece, dark electro indie band. This is my interview with the band’s guitarist, Ryan Deakin.

Introduce the band members.

Ash Bradley is the singer. Ryan Deakin on guitar. Jon Nash on keys. Adam Hall on bass and Pete Bates on drums.

How did you meet?

A few of us have known each other for years. Others through adverts on the internet. We’ve been together for 3 years now and gigging for just over a year.

How did you choose your name?

It was the one name we thought of that no one had anything negative to say about.

In ten words or less – describe your musical sound.

Exciting rhythms, dark keys, surf guitar, earnest lyrics.

Take me through your creative process.

The first idea can come from anywhere, a lyric, a drum loop, a sequencer, or an acoustic guitar! We send the idea out for everyone to take it somewhere else! Then we jam it out, and if we all get that buzz, it’s a keeper.

Love the video for your latest single Mankind.  What was the inspiration for it?

It’s loosely based on real tests that used to be performed about making subjects believe they were really pushing the button to detonate a nuclear weapon! The tests used to decipher the triggers that could make people actually go through with it.

Which track are you most proud of and why?

Ha, you love all your kids the same! It’s normally the last one we have done because it’s fresh in your mind! Very happy with all aspects of Mankind though.

Who’s the biggest pain in the arse on tour?

Haha, we all have our moments! It can always be hard work traveling up the motorway, in a concealed metal box with a load of nutters.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

We all like different things, which is great as it always brings a big perspective to the table! Collectively, we found out early on that we all share a passion for Bowie, which is initially how we clicked.

Which artists are you currently listening to?

New Young Fathers album is excellent.

What’s your all-time favourite album?

Me personally? I’ll always have a soft spot for Xtrmntr by Primal Scream, because it’s the album that completely changed my perception of what music is.

What was the highlight of 2018 and what’s in store for 2019?

2018 – Definitely the release of mankind and the video, after a lot of hard work! 2019…watch this space
